Whether you are a reluctant or enthusiastic journaler, sometimes a few ideas can refresh your spirit. Journal prompts, interacting with other people who are journaling as a means of communicating with God, and even finding supplies can provide a helpful lift.

Follow the suggestions for prompts and the links to see if you can find what you need. The bottom line is to pour out your heart to God, so don't get so sidetracked by stickers and pens that you miss the point. The Lord wants to interact with you, and journaling is a way to keep you focused.

Journaling Prompts
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will
guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent
or praiseworthy - think on these things.
Phillipians 4:6-8 NIV

  1. Write a list of the positive and negative aspects of the circumstances God has allowed in your life at this time.
  2. Which list do you dwell on most? What has God shown you through this exercise?
  3. Look at your negative list. Choose the most troubling circumstance on this list and write it here. According to Philippians 4:6, what two choices are you to make concerning this difficult circumstance in your life?
  4. Meditate on Philippians 4:7. How do you define peace? What do you think it will feel like when you posses it?
  5. Meditate on Philippians 4:8. What is your part? Write out specifically what this means in the midst of your circumstance.
  6. Two women looked through prison bars;
     One saw mud, the other saw stars.
       - Unknown

For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully
and wonderfully made;
Your works are wonderful.
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the
depths of the earth,
your eyes say my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.

Psalm 139:13-16

Christian Journaling Discussion Group
This group was begun by Angie, a woman who read The Contemplative Mom and realized she wanted to help people eliminate or minimize any barriers that might keep them from a rich relationship with the Lord. She loves journaling, and formed a discussion group that keeps a lively conversation going with all kinds of ideas for jou
rnal supplies as well as journal starters posted daily. The group is full of kindness, compassion, and depth. I've been honored and pleased to participate from time to time, when my schedule allows.
